February 2, 2011: CITBA Seminar - "Trust But Verify: Fraud in Agency Trade Proceedings"

Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit

This timely seminar will address the growing challenges confronting U.S. government agencies and practitioners posed by administrative records tainted by fraud in U.S. trade remedy proceedings.  For example, is the application of adverse inferences sufficient to deter fraudulent conduct, or should the Commerce Department investigate and sanction fraudulent activities in its investigations?  This seminar will provide valuable insight into the perspectives of the judiciary and key officials from the Commerce Department, CBP and the Justice Department on how best to address fraud in antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings.

February 1, 2011: Meet the New Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of International Trade, Donald C. Pogue, and the Newest Member to the Court, the Honorable Leo M. Gordon

 

The US Court of International Trade is sending its newly designated Chief Judge, the Hon. Donald C. Pogue and his colleague, the Hon. Leo M. Gordon to participate in a strategic planning conference on the West Coast.  The judges invite members of the Los Angeles trade bar and their colleagues to join them in an informal settling for dinner and to share their insights on the long range strategies of the CIT.

October 5, 2010:  U.S. Court of International Trade Developments and Practice Tips

The DC Bar International Law Section/International Trade Committee, in cooperation with the ABA Section of International Law/Customs Law Committee and CTBA, cordially invites CITBA members to the following event:

 

Tina Potuto Kimble, the Clerk of the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT), will provide an update on developments at the CIT.  Ms. Kimble will discuss recent changes that have been made to the CIT's rules and procedures, and she will offer tips on effective advocacy before the CIT.  She will also provide an overview of proposed legislation that could be introduced that would augment the CIT's jurisdiction in a number of areas.

The panel will discuss the early history of the methods of obtaining judicial review of administrative action in customs law before the creation of the Board of General Appraisers in 1890, including actions in assumpsit against the Collector of Customs and the Supreme Court's 1836 decision in Elliot v. Swartwout.
